the studio

Our work is based on our love of designing dynamic spaces that foster conversation and connectedness within local neighborhoods.

Our studio was started by Michaela A. Sanderson, who currently possesses a Bachelors of Arts in Fine Art from University of California, San Diego, with an emphasis in painting. Michaela has been working in community-based non-profits for over a decade. She is interested in how arts connect the community and bring people together. Her goal is to seek after projects that are collaborative and foster relationships. She is also intrigued with how art can transform how individuals relate to their surroundings and help create a sense of belonging. Murals belong to not to a company or artist but to the community.

Alex Phongsamran joined the studio not long after its inception. She has been drawing and painting since her days as a wee lass. She graduated with a Spanish major from University of California, Riverside, because of hearing Spanish growing up in San Diego County. Her inspiration for murals and other art comes often from people and portraiture, and among her favorite things to paint are faces of different expressions and playful environments. Her opinion is that murals incite confidence into a space, and that same confidence can draw people to further passion in the community.
